Black Lives Matter

Black trans lives are often left out of the conversation on police violence. In 2008, Duanna Johnson was murdered by police officers in Memphis after they beat her during her imprisonment a few months prior. A video of the attack was published online and led to no real consequences for the officers.  No one has been charged for her murder and her family remains uncompensated. Johnson was likely held on false charges in the first place.

This sticker graphic above reads “Black Trans Lives Matter.” The purpose of this, like the hashtag #blacklivesmatter, is to highlight the way that Black trans people in particular are subject to a disproportionate amount of violence.
